“I began receiving letters from my loved ones in Cameroon a few months after my arrival to the States in 2002, and I have kept them all in a box since then. Each is a simple hello, but in part because they are sent with thought and care across the globe rather than in less than a minute via e-mail, they comfort me when I feel homesick. They allow me to create my own fantasy, transforming every single word into an image, and ensure that I don’t forget my past and the homeland I represent.”Yolaine Nkamga was photographed on May 23rd in New York City.
