“I collected these rocks last summer in New Mexico when two friends and I went stargazing near a field of latent volcanos. We couldn’t see any stars because there was a big lighting storm but we hiked in the rain and watched the full moon morph under the clouds. I carry them with me as a reminder of the possibility to see magic.”

“A friend gave my best friend Kristi and I matching roosters as gifts when we were traveling in Indonesia in 2007. We were tickled by his sentiment, and although we still had to make a long trip to Thailand, the roosters came with us. Since then, Kristi and I have each lived in multiple locations and although we now live on opposite sides of the country, our roosters are still with us, and our friendship still persists.”

“This crucifix found its place around my neck when I was a teenager on a trip to Cancun. It is a totem of my Catholic faith and as such it is a reminder, a symbol and a comfort. The name of my city - Santa Fe - means “holy faith” and that is also what this weighted object signifies.”

“This small Lewis chess piece is my adventure totem– a knight errant frozen in the pursuit of his quest. Since he’s small enough to fit anywhere, he follows me everywhere: college, research in Ireland, graduate work in England, and now life in New York. When he takes a place on a table or desk, that place becomes home.”

“I tore this book review of a biography of James Agee, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of ”Let Us Now Praise Famous Men,” out of an old issue of Maclean’s. The spatial tension of the photo that accompanies it seemingly reiterates the “the prodigal tragedy” of Agee’s life. Both image and text reflect the many ways we try to consciously manipulate forms of representation and I continuously refer to them as source material.”
